During the next few months we are asking you to pray for our major events. Activities are spread across Wales in both Welsh and English.
First, pray for ‘Mission Wales’
Mission Wales’ is a new venture that has been set up to provide support for local churches in reaching people with the gospel. We provide teams of people to help churches to run week long missions and support is also given to create literature, posters and tracts.
This year we have four missions in Wales.
They are in Caernarfon (March), Swansea (May), the Eisteddfod in Cardiff (August) and Lampeter (October).
In this month's prayer letter we concentrate on Caernarfon
The team will be working with Caersalem Baptist Church and its pastor, Rev. John Treharne. This mission will be led by Steffan Job (Bangor) and the chaplain will be Rev. Martin Williams ( Pontarddulais). The planned programme of the main events for the mission:
Monday - Arrive, plan and pray
Tuesday - Special meeting for the local community
Wednesday - Meeting for the elderly, Welsh learners’ Easter service
Thursday - Youth meeting
Friday - Meeting for adults & families
Saturday - Open air meeting, Real Lives/preaching evening
Sunday - Easter services
During the week we plan to visit local schools, make leaflet drops in local houses, carry out street work in the town centre and launch a new Christianity Explored course.
Please pray specifically that:
- all preparations will go well and that Martin will know God’s guidance as he prepares
- the team will be united and be able to work well together
- God will prepare people’s hearts to hear and receive the gospel
- the church will be encouraged and will be strengthened by the work of the team.
Forthcoming events to pray for
Gwyliau Tegid (21–25 April)
Gwyliau Tegid is a Welsh retreat for the over 45s, held in Bryn-y-groes. It offers an opportunity to get away from the busyness of everyday life, and enjoy a refreshing time of fellowship with other believers in a relaxing and picturesque setting. The break includes five preaching addresses by Rev. Hywel Meredydd from Anglesey.
Mission Wales (20-25 May)
The third week of May sees the launch of the EMW’s second mission of the year. This time in Townhill Baptist Church in Swansea where Rev. Allan Rees is the Pastor. This is the Movement’s first English Language Mission and will include a range of activities run in partnership with the church, aiming to reach and share the gospel with unbelievers in schools and the community.
Eisteddfod yr Urdd — Conwy (26-31 May)
The Urdd Eisteddfod will be held in North Wales, on the outskirts of Llandudno, this year. As always, Roger Thomas and his team will be there with the ‘Siop y Gair’ Trailer, sharing the gospel with the many Welsh and English speaking folk who attend this festival of Welsh culture. Pray for them as they distribute free literature and seek to engage in conversation with young and old.
Bala Ministers Conference (16-18 June)
Bryn-y-groes will again play host to the EMW Annual Ministers’ Conference. Dr Michael Haykin, Principal of the Toronto Baptist Seminary, Ontario, is this year’s main speaker. His subject is ‘The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit in the New Testament’. There will also be seminars by John Aaron, Ian Campbell and Martin Downes. Topics being discussed will include ‘Functioning in a Hostile Society’ and ‘Africa-Tragedy or Triumph?’
EMW Camps (beginning 19 July)
July marks the end of the school year. For many children across Wales and England it also marks the start of the EMW Summer camps. This summer there will be fourteen camps, spread across five locations, catering for ten year olds to university students. Pray that unbelievers will come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ, those who already believe will be built up and encouraged, and there will be safety whilst enjoying a range of awesome activities!
Eisteddfod Genedlaethol—Cardiff (2-9 Aug)
The National Eisteddfod moves to the capital this year and promises to be a memorable event. Pray for the EMW tent which will provide children’s activites, refreshments, and a bookstall throughout the week, as it seeks to introduce those attending the Eisteddfod to the Living God.
EMW English Conference (9-16 Aug) & Welsh Conference (18-22 Aug)
For two weeks this August, Aberystwyth will again be the location of our annual Welsh and English conferences. Both conferences focus on the preaching of God’s Word. The main speakers are Art Azurdia III (English) and Geraint Morse (Welsh).
More information on all these events are available from the EMW office.
Finally , please pray for .....
The people who will be working to ensure these things happen are the folk listed below—together with a host of volunteers. Until the end of August the pressure on all the EMW staff and volunteers becomes considerable. We all need you prayers.
